The insurance sector is being reshaped by a new generation of leaders who are making their mark.
Kelsey Hazelton is one of these forward-thinking individuals; she was named to Insurance Business Canada’s list of the Top 50 Rising Stars for 2023.
Hazelton, who is 28 years old, is an active member of McFarlan Rowlands Insurance Brokers’ commercial marketing team. She began working in the field in 2016 and has since received the CII and CIIB certifications, as well as a certificate in commercial insurance; she is currently studying for the CMGA certification.
Hazelton has decided to make an even bigger splash in the broker channel by getting active in teaching and education in addition to developing her skill set.
What she enjoyed most was being able to give back to the community through the broker channel. “I’m now in a position where I can share that knowledge with people who have no experience, in some cases, and lead them on the path to success in their exam and career.”
Hazelton has taken it upon herself to help individuals just starting out in the profession by teaching the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario’s RIBO Level 1 Licensing Course. She will also be representing London insurance brokers on the board of directors.
And “being solutions-focused in this industry is huge,” she added. I’m disciplined in my work and recognize the importance of working as part of a team since “this industry is all about relationships,” as the speaker puts it.
A group of experts selected Insurance Business Canada’s Rising Stars, all of whom are under the age of 35, based on their demonstrated talent and potential contributions to the insurance industry.
D.B. Solutions owner Dionne Bowers, who participated in the panel, remarked, “Talent goes beyond knowing the technical component of their job.” ” Young professionals, regardless of their field (insurance or elsewhere), need to be dedicated to community change. Critical thinking, leadership, problem solving, and soft skills are necessary for every Rising Star.
