For the second time, Subway is branching out into footlong snacks, maintaining its trend of serving footlong sandwiches. Subway introduced Footlong Dippers, one of three new bread-and-cheesy appetizers, today nationwide.
Recent Subway footlongs are hot, toasty, and cheesy
Dippers are funny, so ask. Like Subway’s April “signature wraps,” this sandwich layers cheese and meat atop pillowy flatbread-style lavash. The final step is to bundle everything up tightly and bake it until the cheese melts and the bread is hot and toasted.
Subway provides 33 pepperoni, chicken, and double cheese dip-and-sauce variations. Subway’s eleven “signature” sauces, like Honey Mustard, Creamy Sriracha, and Peppercorn Ranch, can be added to your Dipper.
After a successful trial run in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Chef Paul Fabre, head of culinary at Subway, praises the dippers as “highly craveable.”
According to Fabre, this has been part of Food Network’s snacking strategy for a long time. “They’re fantastic for being on the move. They’re practical. At a fantastic price, they’re perfect for munching on.
A permanent addition to the menu will include the Footlong Churro, Auntie Anne’s Footlong Pretzel, Cinnabon Footlong Cookie, and the Footlong “Sidekicks” snack, which also includes the Dippers.
In a press release, Subway announced that their new Dippers footlongs are available for every budget and dining occasion.
According to Fabre, the Pepperoni & Cheese Dipper with Baja Chipotle Sauce is his go-to combination.
With a trio of sauces—
Honey Mustard, Peppercorn Ranch, and Baja Chipotle—I got a sneak peek at all three dippers. The flatbread is the star of the show in the dippers, with the fillings playing a supporting role. I thought the Chicken & Cheese Dip with Baja Chipotle was the best overall. I wholeheartedly concur with Fabre that the freshly baked dippers at restaurants are quite substantial. One Dipper order might have sufficed for a full dinner.
According to Fabre, one of the reasons this item is so appealing is that it pairs well with both plain food and sandwiches. They’re large, steamy, and ooey-gooey. After that, what is not to love?
